  • Running through the Holidays without Burning Out

The holidays are one of the most joyful times of the yearbut for many runners, they can also be some of the busiest. Between travel, family gatherings, seasonal events, and unpredictable weather, its easy for running to slip down the priority list.

The good news? Staying active doesnt have to mean overdoing it. With a few simple strategies, you can keep your body moving, maintain your fitness, and keep stress levels lowall without sacrificing the fun of the season.

    1. Give Yourself Permission to Scale Back

Holiday running doesnt need to look like peak training. Shorter, lower-pressure runs (think 2030 minutes) can maintain your base until your schedule calms down.

    2. Make Running Social

Join a holiday group run, take a jog with family, or meet a friend for a relaxed loop. Moving with others makes it feel fun instead of like a chore. (Come run with us on Dec. 20th on Chuckwalla trail! Link down below!)

    3. Try Maintenance Mode

Aim for 3 or 4 runs per week: two easy runs, one optional workout, and one longer run only if your schedule allows. If that feels like too much, dial it down to 1 or 2 and do what you can! Consistency matters more than intensity.

    4. Stay Warm, Hydrated, and Fueled

Colder weather can hide dehydration, and holiday treats can replace balanced meals without you noticing. Keep snacks, electrolytes, gloves, and layers handy.

    5. Remember: Running Supports Your Life, it doesnt compete with it

Miss a run? Its okay, youre still a runner! Enjoy the holidays, keep moving when you can, and trust that your body will bounce back.

Running through the holidays doesnt have to be stressful. With these tips, you can stay active, stay healthy, and most importantly, enjoy the season.
